Last night was the 2015 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, and the theme was "China: Through the Looking Glass." Some of the stars wore generic outfits that were not very inspired, and some wore outfits that were obviously inspired by the Chinese culture. I'm going to focus on the celebrities that committed and stayed true to the theme.
Rihanna wore a yellow Guo Pei Couture coat with a ginormous train. She paired this with a gold headpiece and strap heels. I'm not exactly crazy about her look, but it is inspired, and I give her credit for fully committing to the coat as a dress look.
Zendaya wore a high-low Fausto Puglisi dress with matching headpiece and jewelry. I'm glad she kept her hair and makeup simple with this look. This look was clearly inspired, and I think it looks fabulous.
Selena Gomez wore a cutout Vera Wang gown which featured tassels on the front and back. She completed the look with a white orchid headpiece and red lips. I think Selena was on the right track with this look, but it doesn't scream Chinese to me. She looks stunning none-the-less.
Sarah Jessica Parker wore a fiery Philip Treacy hat and H&M gown. I love that she has made a tradition out of wearing crazy headpieces. They may be a little out there, but that's what sets SJP apart from the other stars.
Anne Hathaway wore a gold hooded Ralph Lauren gown paired with ear cuffs and a golden clutch. I absolutely love Anne's choice in gowns. She looks fierce in this golden gown.
Kate Hudson shined in a custom made Michael Kors gown. This was one of my favorite looks of the night. She is radiating in this dress.
I can't go without mentioning Jennifer Lawrence, who was co-chair of the event. She wore a floral Dior Couture gown paired with a statement necklace. It didn't look very inspired to me, but she looked beautiful anyways. I think the floral made the dress busy enough, but the necklace was a little too much. If she ditched the necklace, the dress would look much better.
I had a hard time deciding which of these next two women was my favorite. Both had strongly inspired looks, but they were both equally gorgeous.
Fan Bingbing wore a colorful cape and a gold strapless sequin gown, both by Christopher Bu. This was possibly the most inspired look of the night. I have nothing bad to say about this! She looks absolutely stunning and definitely the star who turned heads.
Courtney Eaton was my other favorite look. She donned a gold Dolce & Gabbana gown paired with a golden headpiece and drop earrings. The only thing I can find wrong is her heels. I would have loved to see her in gold heels, but the black does add a bit of contrast and direct focus on the dress. Her makeup and hair are on point and she is stunning. I loved her choice from when I first saw the picture, and I still do.
Who was your favorite at the Met Gala? Let me know in the comments!
